    KTM?????????????????????

    Hi all,
I was over at the Stormin the castle last weekend, and as usual we spent most of the time strolling around the campsite sipping beer, looking at the bikes and swapping stories/lies. I again found myself being drawn to big ORANGE KTM 950 adventures. I like the size, colour and attitude, but I dont know anyone who has owned one - so the big question is reliability.
Does anyone out there have any first hand advise/opinion on this subject. I would be buying a low millage (under 15K) 950 carb model. Opinions please

You'd be better off asking here: Everything Orange - KTM - Honda Trail Bike Forums

I expect a friendly moderator will move the thread shortly...

Well you've chosen the best model for a start.

Reliability? there's a lot of b*ll**** talked about this subject. Yes they do have some issues, fuel pump (same as @'s), water pump seal and clutch slave cylinders can all go but mine has 15,000 miles on it and I have had none of these issues.

My mates 950S has 20,000 miles and the only problem he had was electrical (dodgy connector associated with the rectifier).

I rode mine to the Pyrenees last year, did loads of trails and rode it home with no issues whatsoever.

If you can find one then go for it, it's a superb bike

As Bob said, there's a lot of people talking s***e about reliability, a good start would be to check out Orange Crush on ADVrider.com as well.

There's a few really good threads there about the 950, niggles & maintenance.

I have a 990 and love it to bits, it's not the cheapest bike to own (especially if you have all your maintenance done by the dealer) but it's a blast to ride!

One warning, if you ride it, you'll love it, so bring your wallet to the dealer!

    Re: KTM?????????????????????

I've had my 950 2 months and done 9500 miles with a good few miles off road, does that answer your question? And yes I've had trouble with all of the standard faults, but they've all been bodged into life along the way. I'll sort them out properly over the next month.

Ride it off road and you'll think its amazing, then ride on road and you'll be in dis-believe that anything soo good off road can be even half as good as this on the road.

Problem is, it'll turn you into a hooligan.

Oh and they're high maintenance, oil every 5k (easy job), valve clearances every 10k (shims), more of a pain. And don't expect to get more than 40mpg, ever.

If you can cope with that, do it.
